What is Zvents?
The local search engine to discover things to do! Zvents helps you quickly find out what's going on, wherever you are. Find local events, movies playing nearby, the perfect Indian restaurant, or where your favorite band is playing next. Not sure what you want to do? That's okay - browse by category, date or location and we bet you'll find something that grabs your attention!

If you're an event promoter or organizer, Zvents is a great (and free!) way to distribute information about your events.


Why should I use Zvents?
Zvents will help you realize how much is going on right on your doorstep... and quickly give you all the information you need to find something you want to do! So, no more "There's nothing going on tonight" excuses.


How do I use Zvents?
Zvents offers several ways for you to find things to do/see/visit, etc.

  • Search: use the "What, When, Where" search boxes at the top of the page. Click on the '?' next to each box for search tips.
  • Browse: click on a category of interest to start browsing for events in each category.
  • Ideas: click on 'Popular Searches' for ideas.
  • Venues: search for a specific venue to find everything we have that is going on there.
  • Movies: Find out which movies are playing in local movie theaters, read reviews, and find upcoming movie times.
  • Restaurants: We've got thousands of restaurant listings - search by cuisine, price or location (like your address, zip code, or city) to find a place that sounds appetizing to you.
  • Performers: Wonder where your favorite band, celebrity, politician are going to be? Use Performers to find out.


Where does Zvents get all its event information?
Most of our information comes directly from the venue or promoter, and much of it also comes from other users - like you! Zvents identifies important venues, and when possible, we crawl those sites for their event information. If you want to learn more about our crawler, zbot, read our Crawler FAQ.

Where is Zvents?
Everywhere! Well, not quite yet, but we're working on it. Help us grow by listing your event, business, or restaurant with us - it's free and easy to do. We are building our event database metro by metro, so initially we may not have much in your local area. If we are not covering where you live, let us know. Zvents is headquartered in San Mateo, California.


How do I change my home metro/city/town?
Click on 'Change Location' under the current Metro/City name on the top right of the screen and enter your city/town name or a zip code.


How does Zvents make money?
Eventually through advertising. To the right of every set of search results and every venue or event page there will be ads that are highly relevant to the content you are viewing (e.g. restaurants and bars near theaters). If you click on any of these ads, the advertiser pays us.


What size image should I upload to an event or venue listing?
For optimal display, we recommend uploading an image that is 400 pixels wide. We accept images in .jpeg, .png, or .gif formats. Your image may be cropped to fit into the available space, but the full image will be displayed when a user clicks on it. We recommend using photos over graphic images (like logos), because they are more appealing to other users (think about it, would you rather look at Maria Sharapova or a Nike logo?) - plus, they resize better.

Can I delete an image I posted?
Yes. To delete an image you uploaded, log in, go to the page where the image is posted and click on the 'X' box that appears when you mouse over the image. Click the 'X', and then confirm that you wish to delete the image. Deleted images cannot be recovered, so make sure you really want to delete an image

Tell me about tags?
Tags are keywords assigned to venues or events to help with searching. Typing in a tag word in the 'What' search box will deliver all events tagged with that word, plus other potentially relevant events. Registered users can also add tags to events.


I'm an event promoter. How can Zvents help me?
Zvents can help publicize your events by promoting them for free! By creating an event or venue listing on Zvents, you benefit from free, targeted announcements that you would have to pay for through traditional mass media promotion. This is a huge opportunity to increase your share of voice on search engines, increase traffic to your website, and acquire tools for managing your website.

Zvents also powers the online event calendars for several media and newspaper sites, and any listings added to Zvents are automatically syndicated to relevant media partners.

What's yours is yours. We will never share or sell your private information. We will only send you email if you indicate that we may, otherwise you will never hear from us. For all the nitty-gritty details, read our Privacy Policy.


MyZvents

How do I change my basic account information?
After you log in, click on the 'MyZvents' link displayed in the top right corner of any page. You can edit any of your account settings by clicking on the 'Update Your Profile' link, or change your icon by clicking on 'Change Your Icon' link.


How do I change my password?
After you log in, click on the 'MyZvents' link displayed in the top right corner of any page. You can change your password by clicking on the 'Update Your Profile' link.


Events

How much does it cost to add an event?
Zip. Zilch. Nada. Nothing. Adding events to Zvents costs you nothing, except a few minutes of your time. We take care of letting the world know about your event.


How do I add an event?
Simple, 1) Create a free account, 2) Start adding events using our highly intuitive 'Create an Event' page. Be sure to read our Content Guidelines too.


Are commercial events okay?
Yes, but please read our Terms of Use first.


The details for an event are wrong, how can I fix it?
If you created the event, you can edit the event information. Log in, go to the event page and look for the 'Edit' link and icon in the listing summary section at the top left of the listing detail page. Click the link to access the Edit Event tools. Click 'Edit Event' to make changes. When you are finished making edits, save your changes. The updated event information will be displayed. Changes may take up to 2 hours to appear in search results.

If you did not create the event, tell us about errors by clicking on the 'Report an error with this listing' link, located on the bottom right side of the page.


How do I add an event to Outlook/GCal/AOL, etc?
On the event page, click on the 'Save' icon in the Event listing. You can save the event to your calendar, and bookmark it to popular bookmarking tools, like del.icio.us.


How do I blog about an event?
On the event page, click on 'Share' icon in the Event listing, then select 'Blog it'. We automatically generate the code you need to create a link back to the event.


Can I subscribe to an RSS feed of events taking place at my favorite venues?
Yes! On all the venue pages there is a 'Subscribe' icon in the Venue listing.


Venues / Restaurants

What is a venue?
A venue is a location where any event may take place. It can range anywhere from a stadium, concert hall, college campus, museum to an office building - wherever people can get together!


How do I add a venue?
Sign up for an account, then go to the 'Create Venue' page to add your venue. You need to be logged in to add venues. Be sure to read our Content Guidelines too.


The details for a venue are wrong, how can I fix it?
If you created the venue, you can edit the venue's information. Log in, go to the venue page and look for the 'Edit' link and icon in the listing summary section at the top left of the listing detail page. Click the link to access the Edit tools. Click 'Edit Venue' to make changes. When you are finished making edits, save your changes. The updated venue information will be displayed.

If it is not your venue, tell us about it by clicking on the 'Report an error with this listing' link, located on the bottom right side of the page.


I own or manage a venue. Can I take control of the events listed for my venue?
Yes. If you own or manage a venue, you can take ownership of it. What this means is that your venue will be "locked", and only you or people you designate will be able to add events to your venue, or change the venue description. If anyone else wants to add an event, they will be able to contact you with their request.

Claim your business by sending us an email through the form on the 'Contact Us' page.


Have a web site? Suggest your site for automatic inclusion in Zvents.
If your venue has a website where you list your events, Zvents may be able to automatically get the event information directly from your site through our automated process. You can read more about the process and if you would like Zvents to crawl your website, submit the URL.

Please note, crawling of your site is subject to a review by our content staff, and because of the large numbers of requests received, we may not get to your site for awhile. If you want your information in Zvents, the quickest way to get it in is to add it yourself.


Movies

How do I review a movie?
Sign up for an account or log into an existing account. Then go to the detail page about the movie you want to review and click the 'Write a Review' button. You can rate a movie based on a 5-star rating scale, give your review a title, and include your full comments.


Performers

How do I add a performer?
Sign up for an account to create a page for a performer or artist. Select 'Add A Performer'. After creating the performer page, you can go back and edit the performer details at any time by clicking the 'Edit' link and icon in the listing summary section at the top left of the performer detail page. Click the 'Edit Performer' link in the pop up to make changes. When you are finished making edits, save your changes. The updated performer information will be displayed. You must be logged in to access the Edit tools. Be sure to read our Content Guidelines too.


I'm a performer. How can I take advantage of Zvents?
Zvents encourages new and aspiring musicians, actors, and performing artists to gain public exposure by promoting themselves and showcasing their work (i.e. shows, live performances, etc.). To do this, create a personalized home page on Zvents by selecting 'Add a Performer'. Once the new performer entry is submitted, you can share the webpage with your friends and fans. In addition, you now have the opportunity to get discovered by talent agents or anyone out there looking for new stars!
